Stunning Double Olla Canteen: Marie Juanico Acoma pot
This is a beautiful, perfectly made double olla canteen decorated with Tularosa swirls. It was made by master potter Marie S. Juanico from Acoma (Sky City). Marie is an acknowledged premier potter whose work represents the epitome of craftsmanship. For this reason she is highly valued by collectors. The present work is painted in a bold and shiny slip, and the designs have no rubbing or other defects. And it is signed by Marie.
The pot is fairly large measuring 8 1/4 inches long by 6 1/4 inches tall by 4 inches wide. Note the unique shape of this creation by one of Acoma's best known potters. Uniquely shaped pottery is quite valuable precisely because of the rarity of its form.
