INDIVIDUAL ACOMA POTTERY

Dee Setalla Acoma Parrot Rare Hopi Pottery

Dee Johnson Setalla was born on July 17, 1963 into the Bear Clan at Mishongnovi, Hopi, and has been making pottery since he was no older than seven year old. His teachers were his Mother, Pauline Setalla, and his aunt, Eunice ``Fawn'' Navasie, his father's sister. .

Dee has now evolved into one of the top potters at Hopi, having won First-place awards in juried competition throughout the South West, including the prestigious Santa Fe Indian Market.

Painted simply around the top portion of this piece are four Acoma style parrots, while the lower half is left unpainted. Stone polish is even and smooth and the pot is symmetrical. It measures 6" tall x 8 1/2" wide. This is a rare piece of work, because one does not see often Acoma motifs made by Hopi potters..
