INDIVIDUAL SANTA CLARA POTTERY

Earlene Youngbird Tafoya Large Avanyu Santa Clara pot

According to the authoritative book by Dr. Gregory Schaaf, 750 Artist Biographies, `` Earlene Youngbird Tafoya is one of the finest potters in the style of polychrome redware. Her design work is exceptional. Her compositions are complex. She often balances three design bands, such as an Avanyu, feathers in a row, and then a third of her own creation. She is one of the best pottery painters. Her pots are especially well made.''

This vase is a signature Earlene pot, measuring 5 1/2 inches in height and 5 1/2 inches in diameter and is in mint condition. It is decorated with bands of varying designs in Earlene's characteristic manner. It has a feather-like design at the shoulder, an Avanyu wrapped around its mid-section, Kiva-like steps and geometric arrangements below. (Please note the light hot spots on the pot that look like blemishes. The pot is very shiny and reflects light specularly to create the spots seen in the pictures.)
