Debbie Brown Gorgeous Acoma Multicolor Parrot Pottery
This pot is the creation of one of the finest Acoma and Pueblo potters and pottery decorators, Debbie Brown. Debbie was born in 1962 into the turkey/Sun Clan at Acoma and is a member of a large family of distinguished potters and pottery matriarchs. She is the granddaughter of Jessie Garcia who along with Debbie's mother Sarah Garcia taught her the art of pottery making. She is the sister of such notable potters as Donna Chino and Goldie Hayah. She is known for her brilliant slips, her solid painting, the detail and fine execution of her designs. Debbie is known for her exquisite renditions of the Acoma Parrot, Kokopellis, polychrome designs and other figures and her works are eagerly sought out by collectors.
The pot was hand made from local clay and was hand-painted by Debbie.
This pot is 9 1/2 inches tall by 10 inches in diameter. There are four parrots around the pot alternating in color, along with rich floral designs. The decoration is based on traditional designs found on historic Acoma pottery and it is solidly and precisely painted with no weak spots on the slip or the remaining decoration. A truly striking piece.
