INDIVIDUAL ACOMA POTTERY

Traditional Joy Navasie (2nd FROGWOMAN) Hopi pot

This beautiful handmade pot was hand coiled and hand painted by one of the most famous potters of our time, Joy "Frogwoman" Navasie from the Hopi Reservation. Her mother, Paqua Naha (First Frogwoman), is credited with pioneering this style of white slip Hopi pottery. Joy has carried on the legacy and has continued to construct and teach her family members the techniques involved in making these exquisite creations. This piece features geometric designs and a wing pattern. The slip is impeccably solid and so is the painting of the black and red design. This is a good size pot measuring 6 inches high by 6 1/2 inches across.

The pot is in mint condition. However, note the spot where a blurring of the paint occurs, possibly due to the pot coming in contact with some other item shortly after being fired. It is not paint loss, or other such defect.

Pottery pieces by Joy are becoming more difficult to get as she is advancing in years. At present, Joy is making no more pottery. The present pot was made in the mid-1990s. If seriously interested, feel free to contact me through email, or call me at 925 462 5794. Ask for Tony. Payment plans are available.
