Charmae Shields Natseway Acoma Mimbres Seed Pot
Charmae Shields Natseway is from the Acoma Pueblo and is well known for her traditional seed pots as well as her unique pyramid and box shapes. Charmae comes from a distinguished family of Acoma potters, and learned her art from her mother Ethel Shields, who also makes storyteller figures. She is married to Thomas Natseway an award winning miniature artist.
Charmae uses traditional methods to create her art including gathering her clays from Acoma Pueblo and basing her designs on old traditional Acoma designs. She is known for her seed pots, immaculately designed in black and white, and also for her more unique formed pots that take the shape of pyramids, or boxes. Charmae has won many awards including awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market.
The seed pot pictured here has traditional shape, and for that reason is an untraditional Charmae creation. The painting of the Mimbres figures is absolutely impeccable.
The pot measures 2 1/2 inches tall by 4 inches in diameter.
