Butterfly Dance by Marty & Elvira Nampeyo Hopi Pottery Marty and Elvira Naha Nampeyo are a husband and wife team who are producing some of the most striking pottery at Hopi these days. They have contributed greatly to the development of the incised red-ware that was introduced by Elvira's father, Tom Polacca. Both come from a long line of potters and Elvira is in fact the great-granddaughter of Nampeyo. This heritage and their involvement in the daily lives of the Hopi has aided in the advancement of their art and their designs assume a fluid and real-life form, seeming to come alive in the hands of an onlooker. Elvira and Marty have exhibited their art throughout the Southwest and their work can now be seen in museums, galleries and private collections, and is also represented in books and articles on Pueblo Pottery. The present seed pot is very large, measuring 10 1/2 inches tall by 15 inches in diameter. It is decorated with mail and female butterflies, and is labeled ``The Butterflies, Male/Female'' The workmanship on this piece is truly superb.
