INDIVIDUAL JEMEZ POTTERY

Pueblo Lady Jemez Pottery by Geraldine Sandia

It is impossible for anyone even slightly familiar with pueblo pottery not to recognize the work of Geraldine Sandia. Her inimitable shapes, her mirror-like stone polishing have made her world famous. It is reputation that is ably attested to by her many awards and honors received at pottery exhibitions throughout the Southwestern US, including the prestigious Santa Fe Indian Market. Collections of her work can be found in many private hands as well as in prominent museums such as the Heard.

The present vase is huge, measuring 15 1/2 inches high by 9 inches wide. It is the shape that Geraldine calls her ``Pueblo Lady.'' The polish on the pottery is simply superb, the coloring solid and the decoration with corn stalks and geometric designs done with the flair of a true artist.
