INDIVIDUAL MATA ORTIZ POTTERY
-
Celia Veloz Sculpted Grey on Black Stunning Mata Ortiz Olla
Celia Veloz is the daughter of Saul Veloz and Arminda Saenz who taught her the art of working the clay into magnificent works of art. Celia is a rising new star of second generation potters in Mata Ortiz. She won first prize in her class at the 2006 Concourso and has been wining awards for several years for her outstanding work. Even though the influence of her mother is to be seen in Celia's work, so is her own original artistic temperament. This is an incredibly huge piece with a traditional shape but certainly not traditionally decorated. The designs of swirling bands and finely drawn lines are painted on and follow the lines of a sculpted surface.
This huge olla measures 16 1/2 inches tall by 10 inches wide and is signed by Celia.
