Tomas Quintana Javelina Effigy Mata Ortiz Pottery
Thomas Quintana is one of the outstanding effigy potters from Mata Ortiz. His rendition of rabbits, fish, turtles and other animals follows a unique style all created by this remarkable artist. The javelina effigy shown here is painted in a solid slip and gorgeous and solid colors. It measures 12 inches tall by 16 1/2 inches long by 4 inches wide.
Mata Ortiz pottery is made the traditional way by gathering the clay, forming it into shape using the pitch method (not coiling), and firing it outdoors (not in a kiln).
