Damian Quezada Museum Quality Pottery
Damian Quezada is a nephew of Juan Quezada who is arguably among the top five potters in Mata Ortiz. His characteristic feature is impeccably precise painting with lines, squares and curves drawn to perfection. The touch of color is also exquisite, giving the whole pot an air of motion.
On page 24 of the book The Potters of Mata Ortiz (blue cover), is shown a magnificent vase by Damian. We asked Damian to ``reproduce'' that design although make it a bit different to maintain uniqueness. The result is the present pot and you are welcome to compare designs to the one shown in the book.
The present vase measures a full 11 1/2 inches high by almost 8 inches in diameter at it widest part. It is made in a white slip with a most pleasing patina. It is decorated with sweeping bands that contain fine-line work in the best of the Quezada style of decoration.
