Nicolas Ortiz Mata Ortiz Rabbit Effigy

This is another masterpiece by Nicolas Ortiz Nico makes possibly the best effigy pottery anywhere and he is the indisputable effigy master in Mata Ortiz pottery. The standing rabbit, balancing perfectly on its hind legs is possibly his best known, along with his javalina and owl. Like all his other creations, this pot is superbly polished and decorated by Nicolas. This is also a large piece measuring almost a foot tall. Note the precision of the painting and the delicacy of the lines!!

The pot measures 11 1/2 inches high by about 6 inches wide and is in perfect condition without any defects or flaws. It is signed by Nicolas.

    Lila Silveira Museum Quality Mata Ortiz Olla

    This pot was authentically hand pitched and hand decorated by Lila Silveira from Mata Ortiz. Lila, a second-generation potter, has developed to full maturity in both the structural integrity of her pots and the fine work in her painting. The present olla is decorated in the sweeping band style of the Quezada family with the band representing the bodies of serpents, artistically stylized. The finish is mirror-like in a deep red background. In real life, the red color of the background against the cream of the painting makes for a stunning visual effect.

    The present vase measures 9 inches high by 8 inches in diameter at it widest part, and has no defects of any kind. Also, it is signed by Lila.

    Banuelos Swimming Fish Mata Ortiz Masterpiece

    Roberto Banuelos is arguably among the top ten potters in Mata Ortiz and his name is by now legend among pottery collectors. Roberto's pottrery is exceptionally light and is decorated with some of the most precise fine lines or figures such as fish, rabbits, and lizards. Roberto Banuelos is mentioned prominently in the authoritative book The Many faces of Mata Ortiz, pages 85-87. In addition he is mentioned in almost every write up of Mata Ortiz pottery and his works are displayed in museum and collections everywhere.

    The present vase measures a full 8 1/2 inches high by 10 inches in diameter at it widest part. This is the design displayed on page 86 of The Many faces of Mata Ortiz.
